Even MBUSA doesn't know diesel isn't gas...

Taken directly from their website

"...the E320 BLUETEC can travel up to an astonishing estimated 780 miles on one tank of gas and accelerate from 0 to 60 in 6.6 seconds."

Even I am sometimes guilty...people use "gas" and "fuel" interchangeably in this country. It really can be annoying, can't it?!

Cheers, John

I strongly dislike the word "gas" even when it's used for gasoline. To me gas is primarily a state of matter, i.e. not liquid or solid, and gasoline is mostly liquid. It's pretty stupid to call it gas IMO. And I'm tired of people asking me what kind of gas mileage I get. How about infinite? The worst offense of this kind that I've seen was on CNN that had an article on gas prices with a picture of two semi-truck drivers filling up their tanks and the picture label saying something like "Two truckers gassing up their trucks...".

I would also say that when shopping around for a diesel car I get strongly discouraged when I hear sellers talking about gas mileage or putting gas in the car. I get afraid that maybe that's what they really did.

"Gas" is used as a shortened version of the word "gasoline", not to identify its state of matter. I don't think it's stupid. In that case, it would also be stupid to use "IMO" as a shortened version of "In my opinion".

MBUSA is only guilty of poor oversight of their advertising agency.

Usually no one at those places knows the first thing about the product.

Remember the movie "Speed"? When the guy punctured the fuel tank, and then made it back inside, Sandra Bullock's line was "What's that smell?". She was told GAS. It's diesel bus.

I think the word "gasoline" is pretty stupid too. I'd much rather call it petrol, and I'm not even British.
