Combo switch repair...Is it possible??
 

:confused:Good afternoon all.
I'm trying to find a thread or post on how to repair a combo switch,but no success so far.I was told from some people I know that it can be repaired and not always have to be replaced,and of course you save $175.00 bucks in the process.Does anyone know the repair process of have pictures?
Its a 1983 300SD and the switch wont return to its position.

Repairing would be a great thing, especially if parts are available...

Depends on the problem.

If it is not staying on when you use the turn signal, then yes, usually they are repairable. There is a roller assembly that rocks back and forth to rest in flats for left and right turns. Look carefully at the switch as you operate it. Careful use of a jeweler's file can re-set the sharp edges on the roller's path to allow the switch to operate like new. If it is just busted with you holding a handful of parts, then you are out of luck, new switch time.

I have repaired them in respect too filing the "detent" notch deeper when it wont stay over. I used a small reamer bit in the Dremal. Be very careful doing this, too deep and your dead meat:D No need too remove it from the column.
