1981 240d (engine donor 1983 240d) recently rebuilt engine hurray! - No more.. fought a tree and the tree won.

pearl black 1983 240d 4speed (Converted!@$$%) atleast the tranny was rebuilt.

I had the same sort of problem.

Ended up bent connecting rod causing a wicked fuel knock that sounded
like metal to metal.

How about a quick valve clearance check on #s 1 & 2 if not done reciently. As engine warms marginal valve clearance would get worst with heat expansion of the valve stems. With a little luck just a tight valve?
