Zerex works good on the American made ml's for other models i preffer BMW fluid.

Some clown fill my 300D up with BMW coolant before I bought it...Now I have some G-05 to replace it with.

Well, if you use fleetrite, you can go 6 yrs, 300,000 miles. However, my point is that for International engines, the Zerex lacks the necessary additives that are present in the Fleetrite.

Just a question - how do you guys dispose of your used coolant?

There's probably a list in your phone book for envirionmental handling companies like Envirotec. They take used oil filters and oil and stuff and recycle it.
I know alot of the canadian tire places in Canada have recycle systems for coolant and will gladly take your coolant (if you were canadian) maybe there's an american equivilant

If you have a septic tank thats a great idea!

Better off just dumping it out back so you don't mess the system up.

I don't know if I am supposed to but I send it down the sink, were hooked up to the sewer so it gets treated.

I definitely don't want it in my septic tank and I don't think it is good for a municipal sewage treatment facility either. Take it to a recycling place. Our municipal landfill and recycling center will take any and all kinds of nasty things including used coolant.

we re-jug it, mark the jugs, and run it in whichever car is currently leaking or having problems or being experimented on or whatever... It only gets changed when there's a problem anyway so there's not much to deal with.

EDIT: And this is the coolant we're currently running in the benz. Says it's safe for aluminum systems, etc, on the back. http://www.peakantifreeze.com/peak_global_lifetime.html

Should mention that I've checked literally every local autozone, advance, napa, o'reillys, EVERYTHING within 15 or 20 miles of the house, and there is NO Zerex to be found. Anywhere.

The owner's manual specifies Mercedes Benz coolant. It is crystal clear about that.

It says nothing about substitutes being acceptable.

In fact I have never darkened Shell Oil's door step.

The only "persian perrier" that the car drinks is Chevron "Supreme" with Techron.

It is widely believed that the additives in the Techron cleans the injectors as you go, (and indeed the Techron can be purchased an an additive in plastic bottles) and my car has been running beautifully and purring like a kitten for about 11 years with that.

I changed out the injectors at 100,000 miles, when the timing chain was done, but all that was just preventative maintenance.

I have always used MB coolant....and luckily stocked up on it way back when it was still about $12-13 a gallon...so we still have 3-4 jugs sitting around un-opened. However, I'll probably always use it....its such a minor expense in the life of the car....

The household septic system is the one place you DON'T want to send used antifreeze. The fact is municipal sewer systems can and do process the chemicals in antifreeze, and in many areas while not "publicized" it is permitted. This was taken from the Ohio EPA website:

Disposal of Antifreeze

The hazardous chemicals in antifreeze can be broken down in most sewage treatment plants. If you cannot recycle the antifreeze and your home is connected to a sanitary sewer system, you may flush used antifreeze from your automobile down the toilet or sink. Be sure to wash it down the drain with plenty of water.

If your wastewater goes into a septic system, do not pour used antifreeze down your toilet or sink. Antifreeze can inhibit organisms in a septic system, causing damage to the system. In this case, ask someone who is connected to a sewer system to dispose of your antifreeze for you.

Empty antifreeze containers should be thoroughly rinsed before disposal. The rinsewater should be flushed down the drain in a home connected to a sanitary sewer.

Dilute and Flush
Flushing used antifreeze down the drain is the least-preferred disposal option, but it may be the only option available in some areas. Your wastewater treatment facility should be contacted to ensure that they can accept the waste prior to using this method.

Although antifreeze is biodegradable, households on septic systems should NOT dispose of antifreeze down the drain. If your home is connected to a septic tank, give this product to someone who is connected to a municipal sewer system. Even in a diluted form, antifreeze can overwhelm and destroy the bacterial action in your septic system and drain field.

Procedures include:

Provide adequate ventilation by opening windows and doors and/or turning on a room fan.

Wear protective clothing such as chemical resistant gloves, eye protection and long sleeves.

Carefully pour about 1 gallon of diluted antifreeze down the sink, flushing with large amounts of water. Failure to dilute antifreeze may damage pipes or other parts of your plumbing.

Continue disposing in 1 gallon batches until completely gone. Don't mix products, and wait several hours between disposing of different types of products.

The best time to do this is during the working day when the sewage system is in full use so that this material passes through the municipal sewage system faster.

These procedures are intended for small quantities of used antifreeze from a household only.

I only did a quick search and found those two states but, for pete's sake, if Colorado says it is OK to do it it must not be too bad. I am not implying that this is permitted everywhere, I am just posting this so people understand there's typically nothing in used antifreeze that a public sewer system can't process in relatively low dilution. Large generators of used antifreeze should not flush it but a couple of gallons a year from a household won't harm anything.
