suspension issue

Hello everyone,
So the other day I was driving with three other people in the car and I heard a pop in the front end and a clunking. The car sounded normal except for a clunking of metal on metal when I went over bumps. When I got to my destination, I saw that a part of my stabilizer arm or something (dont know the name) is disconnected from the suspension. Well, I probably confused you because I really dont know what I am looking at so I have some pics below. Could anyone tell me what happened and what I will need to replace this problem? I will probably do it myself so any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

DK

PS: I just put front shocks on as you can see from the picture. I hope that they were put in so that this wasnt the result of bad work.....

Cant look at my W123 right now to confirm but I believe you lost part of your upper control arm and the fastner for the sway bar?

That is the anti sway bar, or torsion bar, I think is how MB referrers to 'em. There are two rubber bushings, one goes on either side of the Upper Control Arm, that's that thing with the hole in the middle. You may be able to fit the one bushing on there, and using a pair of "c" clamps bring it in place through the UCA, another bushing, looks like two washers, one fits in the other, then the bolt, torque to 48 ft. lbs. Do you still have the bolt and washers?

He may need to source the bolt and washers somewhere. Bushings available new.

might be worth getting a new UCA if the bushings disintegrated and caused the bolt to fall out. The rest of it can't be in good shape either.

Yep...see that now. The UCA looks a little chewed up and out of round too. Probably been loose or had deterioated bushings for some time.

I wish I did have the parts but they are between here and 30 miles away. Also, my car is a w126, is there any difference? So, what parts should I begin to look for? Thanks.

You don't need the inner bushings. Just two of the cheap ones, plus hardware.

Probably is appropriate to splurge and get 4 bushings and do the other side at the same time. I assume the left side is as old as the right side was. Suspension parts are always better done in pairs.

At least check and see if the bolt is about to fall out or not so you don't have a repeat of this problem.

Good idea. I think that I will do both sides when I get the parts.

Could someone tell me the size of the bolt. I dont want to have my car in a vegetable state as I am still driving it because I need to get to work still. I just need the demensions and the thread number.

Again,
I really appreciate all the help.

No. If you can, remove bolt from other side, you're gonna change both out, right? And match up at a hardware store.
