It was also confirmed by a forum member in the past, that cutting or clamping the fuel line will shut down the engine.

How about for those of us that have the vacuum operated throttle valve using a "T" connection and a check valve and connect the vacuum line to the stop unit on the pump thru the check valve so when you turn the key switch off the valve for the EGR will close the air coming in the manifold, then the engine will stop getting fuel and air at the same time
the check valve would keep vacuum applied to the egr throttle from affecting the stop unit on the pump.they do that electrically on the A4 VWs and call it an anti shudder valve although its main purpose is to increase the egr flow just as it is on the MBs. It does make them shutdown smoother as it cuts off air for compression so the engine stops more smoothly than the A3 cars that didnt have it.Might have the same smoothing effect on the MBs but i cant try it as the one on my car leaks badly. My $.02

Putting your hand over the intake will not do more than put an impression in your skin. High vacuum at sea level is only 14.7psi. I know most people can hold that much weight and more in the palm of their hand.

If it were still light out, I'd make a video just to prove the point.

I wouldn't try it, that's 14.7 pounds per square inch. If we are talking about a 3 inch diameter air intake, that's about 7 square inches. The total force would be 14.7 x 7 = 104 pounds.

Depends on the size of the diesel...on the engines I am talking about your arm would be sucked in and eaten up by the turbo...

On our little toy diesels, you probably would be fine.

Well yeah, it depends on the inlet diameter. If the inlet is as big as your head, you should probably stay away from it.

Yep, ours are toys in comparison to what else is out there. This one would definitely eat more than just your arm...

Ok, back on topic...

Gearhead alternative to cremation or a woodchipper.

Yes. There was also the case a couple of years ago in Denver where two guys were cutting down a tree. One was up in the tree with the chainsaw and the other operating the woodchipper. When the guy on the ground stopped responding the guy in the tree came down to find a pair of shoes sticking out of the woodchipper.

On a runaway turbo diesel doing some 5000 rpm? No, I'm not gonna try this.
