Slipping when coming from a stop

1983 240D Automatic

Sometimes when coming from a stop (at a stoplight or such) and then applying the go pedal, the car just doesn't get going, just like its in neutral, no power being transferred.
Then I've been hearing weird clunk noises also when engaging from a stop.

I didn't seem to have these problems before I fixed my transmission vacuum issues but I can't say thats the cause for sure
Have not changed the tranny fluid and filter yet but I have the supplies.

Any ideas?

Change the fluid and filter first.
