85 300 TD Shifter problems.

Hey all,
I've got an 85 TD that I'm having some shifter problems with. If the car is not running, I can easily shift through all the gears, but if it is running I can go from park down through the gears, but it has trouble shifting back up to park. It gets stuck around d/n area. I've checked the linkage and that's not the problem. It seems to be something internal due to only occuring in the running vehicle. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

Have you checked the transmission fluid. It might be really low.

The level is fine. The transmission was actually shifting through the gears fine. Just the shifter itself is having trouble going back into park while running.

I had a similar problem with my 84TD and it turned out to be a bushing in
the linkage that goes bad and really makes the shifter sloppy. An Indy
replaced mine $6 part and $25 labor. Feels like new.

Thanks for the reply and yes I initially thought it was a shift bushing problem myself, but the bushings are new and the linkage is correctly adjusted. It seems to be an internal problem. Like I said it shifts fine when the car is off, just has problems when running. It seems almost as though the fluid pressure is causing something to shift and hang up on a burr or something.
