Cigar lighter ... it don't work ...

... My cigar lighter doesn't work when you plug a charger into it. Well, now it does work because it's lying in my trunk with the rest of the ashtray. I'm making a little wood panel to mount my boost gauge in (which by the way, is all plugged in and works great, although it just sits in the empty ashtray area), and was considering buying another cigar lighter to mount alongside it, and just plug into the connection from the old one. I want to make sure the problem was the old lighter itself, not the connection, before I buy a new one to plug into it. Have multimeter ... what do I look for from the connection?

Checking the voltage is the best way. One thing to know is that not all charger adaptors are compatible with all receptacles. Some adaptors require a fitment ring to work properly with some older makes and models.

Connection works fine. Thanks. I'll pick out a charger as I plan for the wood panel ... which will probably take forever, seeing as it keeps getting kicked to the back burner.

I have great issues with the cigar lighter ports in both my driver benzes. the solution I came up with is to use one of those three port lighted adapters, it has a short cord that works with the cigar lighter port, and the three ports are MUCH more compatible with the various adapters and chargers I use in my car.
