What Do You Keep Your Diesel Kleen In (In The Car)?

I've used Diesel Kleen in my 300td since I got it last November, but haven't done so lately because the temps have been hot enough in Atlanta lately that the jug (an oil bottle) I've been keeping it in in the car is really stinking. The plastic type of the oil bottle is the same as the large Diesel Kleen jug, but there has to be more to it. I considered getting one of the Diesel Kleen quarts and keeping that in the car, but the mouth is Mobil 1 sized (i.e. large) and would probably spill a lot when trying to pour into the filler neck. BTW, I did try keeping it in the engine compartment (near the fuse box -- it fits nicely), but the heat made the stuff permeate worse and the bottle was getting smooshy.

Thus, I'm looking for a container that won't let the Diesel Kleen permeate, has gradations on it so I can easily tell how much I've put in, and has a good-working spout. Any suggestions?

The first thing that comes to my mind is a gallon jug of Mobil 1300 Super 15W-40 oil. It has an interesting opening that appears large initially but pulls out about an inch and a half to a narrow opening, about the size of a quart oil opening. It also has the clear strip down the side so you can see how much is in there. Granted, it may not be as fine a measurement as you need but it is marked and visible. You wouldn't even have to get all the oil out first.

I use a plastic coke bottle, that I've marked with a sharpie pen at 12 oz.

I fill it from the gallon jug in my garage (with gloves on) and drop it into a gallon ziploc freezer bag along with a small rag (for spills). I keep that inside the flip down panel in the back of the TD (next to the jack, first aid kit and warning triangle).

You're not joking, very small amounts of that stuff will stink up the whole car in no time.

I use a little empty 2 cycle oil bottle. It holds up to 4 ounces and has a nice little transparent column on the back with 1 to 4 oz markings. I fill it and throw it in the trunk. Whenever I get diesel, I pour it in first. It is small enough to not make a mess when you dump it in the tank. When I get back from getting diesel, I just refill it to whatever ratio I am using and trow it back in the trunk. It closes tight and I never smelled anything in the car.

I use an MSR stove fuel bottle. You can buy them at any good camping store.

You can even sometimes find generic stove fuel bottles at Wal-Mart.

gatorade quarts? very tough plastic bottle and EXCELLENT seal! plus, the bottle fits well (tight) into the fuel opening.

I guess I am in the minority.. I keep the gallon container and a funnel in the trunk. I have a plastic crate with a jug of windshield washer, a gallon of Rotella Syn, a gallon of distilled water the DK and the Lucas fuel treatment.
I also keep a couple micro fiber rags and a roll of paper towels in the box.

Oh and a roll of Duct Tape -- ya never know ;)

I just stick the funnel in the filler tube and do a three count pour. THen do a squirt of Lucas before filling up.

I use the gallon jug of Kleen and the top half of a Gatorade bottle as a funnel.

I leave my bottle at home. I don't use additives at every fill up, but when I do use them I just add the additive to my near empty tank at home and then drive the half mile and fill up the car or fill up the car and add a little when I get home, it will mix the next time I drive my car. The food my 3 year old daughter throws all over the car stinks enough, I do not need anything else stink in the car. I do keep a quart of oil in the car at all times, but it never stinks.

How bout stashin the bottle under the hood in engine compartment? W123's have excellent storage space behind headlights. Under the hood of mine, there's gallon of synth engine oil and full gallon of DK stashed away secured with bungee cord. Use yer imagination and there's enough room for gallon bottle of emergency radiator water too. Every fill-up just pop the hood and its all there.

As I said, I've stored it under the hood and it made the bottle permeation worse due to the heat. Storage space isn't an issue, but I can tell you that with the SLS and windshield washer reservoirs, I couldn't put all that under the hood of the 300td. I wouldn't mind keeping oil and water in the car, as they won't stink it up (and maybe cause dain bramage due to the kemikulls).

I've got a slew of 2-cycle oil bottles, 8oz variety. I prefill them with my favorite additive and leave 4 to 6 bottles in each vehicle. Easy and simple for the wife to deal with when she fills up. Clean too. RT
