240D engine for 76 same as 79?

Are the basic engine parts (heads, block and internal parts) for a 240D interchangable between a 1976 and a 1979.

I think the oil filter is in a different location. I don't know if this means that the blocks are cast differently.

There are some similarities, but there also some major differences. They don't transplant very well.

Oil filter location

Method of fuel shutoff

Fuel linkages

Different type of IP

etc.

to go into further detail,

Oilfilter locations are diffrent, im sure this means that the block is cast diffrently.
instead of the fuel rack being pulled to shuttoff positon by Mechanical means (as you pull the lever it pulls the rack to closed position) But it is operated by vaccum.
Fuel linkages are minor diffrences but shouldnt be hard to come by.
Ip's are diffrent definitly, the older style IP are self contained and have there own supply of oil wich must be flushed and changed every once in awhile, While the new style uses engine oil from the crankcase through tubing.
