Differences between '85 and previous motors?

So due to lack of information on the installation of an electric sls pump I'm thinking I may have to go with a different doner car for a 'heart' for my '82 300TD

I can get my hands on an '85 300TD for parts (i.e. the motor) but what I really need to know is this -

What are the major differences between an '81-84 617 found in a 123 300TD and an '85?

What am I going to have to create on the body/ remove from the motor to make it run properly?

Cheers,
Roger

It's exactly the same engine. The only differences are more emissions controls that can be quickly removed without issues.

The is no difference unless its a Kali emissions motor. Then you'll need swap manifolds unless you'll want to keep the trap.

Also the TD (wagon) motor has the SLS setup on it.

This is a desireable head so if you can use the sedan head there is a market for good wagon heads.

Guys, I thought the 1984/85 turbodiesels had slightly higher output due to a different cam...is that not the case?

Its ever so slight. Ive read the difference is 123hp to 125hp. I doubt its the cam. When they went from the OM617.950 to the .951, it was a cam change, and the difference was 110hp to 123hp.

85 has a different tranny too.... only slightly though.

The tachometer sensor is on the flywheel on 1984 and 1985 cars. My engine was replaced with an earlier version, so currently my tach doesn't work.
