That 2.2 turbo has a bit more HP than the 2.3 gasser in my Accord, plus 110 extra foot lbs of torque and 20 more mpg.

I love modern diesels.

Lets hope Honda can build a tranny that can withstand the torque. They definitely don't overbuild their trannies like MB does.

Japanese diesels have been around for upteen-um years. Most vehicles in Asia are diesels (Toyota, Fuso, Mitsubishi, Hino...) and proven their worth..

With an engine designed by a self-professed "diesel hater"? No thanks.

That thing is butt ugly. Doesn`t have the style and grace our old
Benzes have.

I can vouch for the long givity of the Jap Diesels with my Datsun PU.

I don`t get 50 plus mpg, but I can buy a lot of diesel for the cost of a
new vehicle.

Better wait for the bugs to be worked out on any new introduced vehicle.

I've owned a Datsun diesel like you do. Great engine but everything else was so so. The SD22 looks like a copy of an old Mercedes diesel right down to the Bosch IP.

surely not.

I agree that the pics make it look a little banglish in its style, but it might look better in person. I really like the new honda four doors i have seen.

The Japs could have copied Mercedes, they are good at copying everything else. The pump is a Bosch/Kiki pump. the injectors look like the ones in the Mercedes. Haven`t tried it, but maybe they will fit.
Drive train has been excellent, the body could have been sealed much better. have some rust.
mpg on hwy 35 to 37 as high as 40+ an rare ocasions.
I always kid around "when the German iron craps out, the Jap tin keeps truckin". been truth to that on more than one ocasion since MB ownership.

I saw an unmolested datsun diesel in a parts yard. Any premium parts that I should grab? This one is not a turbo.

I wonder how much more it will sticker for over the gas model?

Bet its pretty quick with all that torque, probably has a 5spd auto.

The downside is that its a Civic, so it looks like a space ship and is designed and built for kids. The new Civic is a strange looking little car.
