I'm not familiar with the market for these things, but the price seems pretty reasonable to me. Wonder what its top speed is.

ooooo ... a post war pre war design... the 170 series is a 30's design and basically helped Mercedes get back on its feet after the war. IIRC it was the first passenger diesel car.. I don't have my book open on the subject but It does ring a bell.. I'd love that car

I wasn't sure what the market is for these either. I really haven't seen one this old for sale.
It definitely caught my attention though.

I don't know what it's worth either, I saw a very nice gasser with a similar body (about 1952, I think) at a show in denver a couple of months ago. Very cool!

Hmm i found it to have 40hp and 75lbft. That would make a 240D automatic like a rocket!

Actually, these diesels had an OHV pushrod engine. It was the gas 170 and early Ponton 180 that had sidevalve engines. My reference gives a top speed of 105 km/hr, or 65 mph for a '53 170D-S, and acceleration of 56 seconds to 100 km/hr.

The first production model. Peugeot got the first one built but not into production.

According to my reference, along with the glacial acceleration, the early 170D achieved an overall average fuel consumption of 33 mpg, compared with 24.5 mpg for the 'thirsty' mid '70s 240D!
