ATF or 30W for my auto tranny?

Owners manual says 30W engine oil, MB repair manual (CD) says ATF

Dilemma!

I've never heard of putting 30W in automatic. What year car are your asking about, the 83 240D?

Transmichigan oil

Or if you want to get fancy. Mobil 1 synthetic. I haven't noticed any difference in my '85 since I started using Mobil-1 but maybe I feel better and certainly Mobil does.
