slight sputtering problem

no matter how long i have the car running or the temp of the engine or outside air temp, I have a slight sputter right around 1200-1500 rpm. Once it passes that, it is fine and runs smooth, even under heavy acceleration, and below that, it runs as smooth as can be, but once it hits that rpm range, it feels like it misses a few beats. Anyone have any ideas?

Any smoke coming out the tailpipe when it's sputtering? And if so, what color?

617 hesitation at 1500 to 2000 rpm

I have suddenly experienced the same symptoms with my 83 300sd.

Driving to the airport on Friday in heavy traffic moving at around 40 mph or so, I noticed a slight fluctuation in power lasting about 0.5 to 1 second while accelerating GENTLY from rpms in the 1500 to 2000 rpm range. This happened to me 3-4 times in 50 miles of driving.

No problems at higher rpms/speed or in city driving.

No recent engine or fuel system work. Both fuel filters replaced about 8K miles ago. Only difference I can think of is that I ran a couple tankfulls of B20 20% biodiesel blend through the car recently.

No nasty black or while smoke problems either.

I have seen several postings with this type of issue with no good replies. Do I need to wait until this problem becomes much more consistent (or goes away) to diagnose it?

dirty injector. Get some injector cleaner and add it to the fuel tank.

first thing that comes to mind is the fact that bio Diesel can cause little bits of things to come adrift in the fuel system.

Thank you! One $4.99 can of Canadian Tire diesel injector cleaner did the trick. Problem solved
