Weird drivetrain problem
All,
When I put my car into neutral or park, the driveshaft is rocking back and forth under the car like its still partially in gear - anyone ever had this problem before? I'm taking it to the shop on Monday, but I don't want to buy another transmission if I can avoid it. I drive an 83' 300D with 200,000 miles. The tranny flares badly on the 2-3 shift when cold, doesn't exhibit any flare when warm. Any insight would be appreciated... |
Completely normal. If by what you mean is when you rev the engine in neutral or park the shaft moves (or clunks) a bit...thats normal. The pressure in the transmission when the engine is rev'd make it do that. Ours do it too.

Huh....I haven't noticed it when idling, but I suppose it still could happen. Its not something to worry about as long as its still shifting and functioning properly....
