Tranny fluid drip near converter on 300CD

During my annual car inspection, the guy at the shop found some tranny fluid near the converter housing on my 300CD. I got it inspected, but now what to do about the leak.

I've never had to do anything to the tranny other than change the fluid & filter a while ago (30k miles, approx). The guy at the local AAMCO shop cleaned off the bottom of the car and told me to drive it over the weekend and see if it drips. Say what? Um, yeah, I already established that it's leaking and would rather not go back in there to get hosed on some pre-packaged "service" that I should either do myself or get done somewhere else.

Any suggestions? What's it usually cost to replace a converter seal if that's what's needed? Thanks

- Gil

Our 300D leaks a teeny bit in the same place....we just add a little dexron every now and then. Maybe 1/4qt per 1500+ miles? Not even that usually...so its not worth dealing with...tranny operates perfectly.

I'd say if its a minor leak don't bother with it....just keep a general eye on the fluid level.

When I got my SD it was leaking over a quart a week... so we had the seals (all of them) in the tranny replaced at a cost of about $1800 at the dealer all said and done. Worth it? Yes, tranny has gone 53k since then trouble free on synthetic, shifting perfectly. I have no doubt it will make it past 300k. They said the internal components looked excellent when they had it apart at 210k. Previous owner must have been a slow/gentle driver....cool!

same thing

going on w/ my car. If my car sits for a couple of weeks, I will see a spot on the driveway a couple of inches in diameter. About 5k after changing tran. fluid/filter, I ahave probably added <1/2 qt. of fluid. Just check it regularly!
