Euro 300SD???

This is a very detailed conversion (but no headlight angle adjuster) if it isn't a true Euro -

I thought the 300SD was a US only model.

i'd buy it just for the fabric seats!

Read the ad. It says it's a rare import from Japan. I think it is very rare indeed. Japan got many of the same US-only models that we got but without the uglier US-spec headlights and bumpers. I wonder how difficult it would be to import a car like that from Canada (where it is right now).

not very, but it's big $$
My shop has to ship a 1977 Charger to a guy in Ontario and it's going to cost him over $1900 above and beyond the $3500 vehicle

Its either Canadian or Japanese. Since it seems to be in good shape and not rusted to hell I'll say Japanese.

I'm curious why the 300SD is not a RHD model. Japan is a RHD country. They've got numerous Japanese model diesels in their inventory. They're also RHD but I wouldn't care about that.

My dad's '83 300SD is an originally-canada car...it came to the US in 1989 from Windsor....but it has the US headlight assemblies...it did have the speedo swapped out, it has the gasser 160mph unit, however, it reads the mileage accurately but the speed is too fast. Interesting. Has MB tex...etc...all other stuff seems to be USA spec....

Well its considering a status thing to have a LHD car in Japan. Or at least it was back in the day.

Some amazing W126's come from that country!

It would depend on what year the car is, and I couldn't see where the year and serial number of the car is, so no way to tell

If it is 25 years or older, ie, an '81 or an '82, it should be no problem at all.

If it is newer there will be costly DOT/EPA regulations to be met and it could easily cost over $6,000 to bring it here and certify it.

Bruce Mendel would know the particulars. He brings in W126 cars that he finds in Japan, and Canada, gets them legalized, and sells them. His name is BruceM105 here and brucemendel on benzworld, where he checks in frequently...

Many cars that are nice LHD W126 cars can be brought into Canada without trouble, from Japan, because anything 15 years old or more can easily be imported into Canada.

I think it had something to do with the extra turbo plumbing getting in the way of the RHD steering components.

I'm surprised that some cars as old as that are still surviving in Japan. My understanding is that the taxes on older cars are extremely high. It's why they usually scrap such relatively new cars.

According to the dealer's website, not all Japanese cars were RHD cars. This link also explains why used Japanese cars tend to be better. I believe it as I've heard this before and it makes sense.
