84 300TD Transmission into an 83 300D?

Friend of mine wants to buy my spare transmission (from an 84 300TD) for his 83 300D. Are they compatible?

He should be able to bolt it in with no problems. The California '85 model year is when they made some major changes.

Thanks! That is what was confusing me. The big changes in 85 were on the CA model.
