I had to swap the rear on my SD as the PO bottomed it out and cracked the bead down the side, it too was straight through. I have a 10/84 300SD.

JB Weld will stink up a storm, I would not use it on exhaust. There is some goop the local auto parts stores carry, Permatex I think... works well to seal up holes. I did this in my 300SEL.
