New 190D Owner

Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this but I didn't see an introduction forum.

First of all, this is a great site! I have already found a great deal of answers to many questions I had.

I picked up a 1984 190D with the 2.2 diesel motor yesterday. The guy I bought it from has put alot of front end work into the car and the engine has fair amount of new parts on it. The engine purrs like a kitten (for a diesel lol). It rides very smooth and just glides around the corners. The body is overall very solid with only one dent but it desperately needs a paint job. All the clear has peeled. It needs a left taillight. The driver seat also needs to be replaced eventually because it is torn. The rest of the leather/vinyl is in excellent condition though. There are a few other minor things to take care of as well.

Anyway, I got a hell of a deal on this thing. It may need some work but overall it isn't that bad. The biggest thing is the paint job. It is currently gold with a tan interior but I like the idea of either painting it red or black.

Only bad thing is its an auto but oh well. This thing gets almost 40mpg and its a diesel!

I am so glad I got this thing. I have always been a huge fan of the older Mercedes and I have been developing a diesel fetish lately so this was the perfect Benz for me to find! I hope to get pics up as soon as possible.

I hope its ok if I ask one quick headlight question in this post.

These look like one piece headlights. Where can I get them? Are these aftermarket or out of a newer w201? If so, which one? They look extremely clear to be stock.

Thanks.

If your headlights are like the ones in the 16v in your post, those are euro lights. Those are what came stock on cars delivered in europe.

The bulb is changed from the engine side.

They would have "Bosch" marked on them somewhere. Or they may be aftermarket lights as well. If Bosch, then there should be vacuum motors, which, with the correct controls, can be adjusted while you are driving.

Thanks!

I can see myself getting a set of those heads. They just do magic to the front of the car!

Hope it's okay to plug one company twice in the same night...

Here's a set of genuine Bosch headlamps for your 201. I just installed a set in my 300D with the vacuum control set-up. The price seems a bit steep to me. I think I paid something like 450.00 for the set. The vacuum components will have to be ordered separately and Performance Products does not have that ability. I ordered mine through Phil, with Fastlane (connected with this forum). You won't get any better, personalized service anywhere than with Fastlane. Come to think of it, I have no eartly idea why I didn't simply order everything from Phil to begin with.

Last I heard, from Roy, there were only 26 of those vacuum switches left in world-wide stock (Mercedes-Benz). If you want to go with the vacuum adjust feature (which, I'll admit, is pretty handy) you'll have to ask if the switches are still available.

Anyhow, This will give you an idea of what you're looking for.

Here's a 190 16v lowered a bit with 97 AMG wheels and a black grill. And Euro lights.

Nice 190D you've got there. Those look like W203 (outgoing C-Class) rims on it. They look great!

It's not actually mine, just a pic of one with the lights I was curious about. I wish that was what my 190d looked like. I should be able to get some pics of mine this weekend.

Dont pay anymore than 250 for euros. Your right, they update the look of the car (specially the 84s) a lot! However, stick with the orange corners or better yet source some amber E-Code blinkers from german ebay. Clears on a these classic MBs is just stupid.

Just look on ebay, NEW aftermarket euros go for 250. And used bosch euros go for 150-250 depending on how many shill bidders the seller has employed.
