Question causes of no acceleration?

My daughter's been driving the 300D for about 6 months with no problems, but today... she was driving down the highway and felt "something funny". From her description, I think it was a shudder of some sort. Almost immediately she began losing acceleration, she tried pushing the go pedal harder, but the car continued to decelerate. She pulled over and called me. The car was still idling; it never stalled.

I told her to shut it off and I drove to her. When I got there, I popped the hood and looked for disconnected linkage, but everything looked normal. I had her start the car and I moved the linkage and the engine revved. I had her try the pedal and again the car revved. So, I followed her home at a slow pace and as soon as we got here, I changed both fuel filters.

It's possible that the filters were the only problem, but I wanted to ask if there's anything else I should check? What if it happens again with the new filters?

Thanks!!!

Plugged Banjo Bolt?

Faulty turbo switchover valve?

And my all time favorite, since I did it to my self twice...broken hard line between banjo bolt-turbo switchover-ALDA. Hands slipping off a wrench and brittle lines are not a good combo...

Hey Don,
Thanks for the quick response!

It's running fine now, but then again... it appeared to be running fine by the time I showed up on the scene.

The only reason we drove home slowly is because I wanted her to be able to pull over quickly and safely if she lost engine power. (The 300D was still safer for her to drive than my truck. )

So anyway... since it got home fine, I really have no idea what the problem was and I have nothing to compare with.

RR, I did clean the banjo bolt about 4 months ago, but I could check it again. Thanks! I don't think any lines are broken. I'm apparently looking for an intermittent problem. (God, I hate intermittent problems!!!)

I've never touched the ALDA, but apparently the p.o. did because there's no cover over the screw. I've only cleaned the banjo bolt and vacuum line about 6 months ago (no new residue since then).

Coolant's fine - right level, bright and gold.
Oil level's fine.
No visible bubbles in the lines.

Daughter's taking it on the freeway again today.

Keeping my finger's crossed,

From the description it sounds like the filters are the problem. I have had this happen to me.

I had a similar problem. Car idled fine and reved up fine when in park, but would stutter and loose power while accelerating.

It turned out that the primer pump handle had unscrewed due to engine vibration and was leaking air into the fuel lines.

I only figured it out after I changed the primary fuel filter. When I went to pump the system, I realized that the pump top was loose.

Ok, it looks like it was the filters. Daughter said it was just fine today (even at highway speeds).

Thanks guys! Sorry for panicking without reason. I just wanted to be ready for this weekend if it was something else.

Nasty ,Greasy (But,sometimes necessary job)

I'll always put it off and see if Startron kills all the Fungus [First!]

Nah, you run the fuel level down as low as you dare...take the fuel return line
and place it into a 5 gallon container...let the engine's fuel return function
drain the Tank until the engine stops.
Then the fun. The tank Strainer is UNDERNEATH the Fuel tank and takes a 46mm
wrench
(Sometimes you get lucky IF you're Very,Very careful with Channel Locks.)
Be prepared for a minor Diesel Bath when you remove the Strainer.
