Push Button Climate Control
Hello Everyone,
I know that my push button climate control isn't working. AC will come on but sometimes takes 10 minutes or better for the blower to start, other times I can hit the defrost -let it stay on defrost 2 minutes and then pop it over to the regular AC and the AC will stay on. I have read most of the posts and I know that I probably have a cold solder joint or some of the other problems that are mentioned. I will probably just get a remanufactured one, BUT MY BIG QUESTION IS - HOW DO I GET THE WOOD INLAY OFF WITHOUT BREAKING IT. I haven't found any posts that give a detail on how to do it. On my other Benz, the W123, it popped off real easy and had just the little ball and sockets that seemed to hold it on. With this one, I have pryed at it and I am afraid I am going to break it. Does it come off the same way as the W123s or is there some trick I am missing (not having a manual for a W126 ONLY a W123)??? Also, I remember seeing where I could send the climate controller somewhere that it could be rebuilt, but I didn't save that posting that gave the site. If anyone knows where I can send it, that would be appreciated also. |

I think you need to remove the ash tray and loosen a couple of screws to free up the bottom on the W126, but someone here will know for sure.
I have bought a rebuilt unit (they do exchanges) from GDL: http://www.gdl-online.com/price6.html Be aware that they will not accept the old one for a core refund if you mess it up with solder. |

Yes, start at the ashtray and go up. After the radio is removed, you will see two screws along the bottom edge of the wood panel.
