Engine machine work

Is any benefit gained from gasket-matching and port polishing?

Port polishing-yes
Gasket-matching I have no idea what that is.

Gasket port openings are never the same size as the port itself. the gasket hole is usually larger. you take the new gasket you're going to use and you hold it up to the head, mark the hole on the gasket on the head and then start grinding head material (IF It can handle it) till the holes are all the same size...do this on the head as well as the manifolds. it streamlines the flow of air and exhaust.

effective on gassers, just was wondering about Diesels. because diesels are more about volume than flow.

I doubt you will gain anything, these things chug along just fine with half the intact manifold clogged with EGR tar. The turbo does the trick.

But if you want to gain that .000001hp go for it!

I'm sure flow can help on a diesel as well. You should also try having the intake manifold extruded. This helps remove the roughness inside the manifold to improve flow. Also see if you can have someone fabricate a header at a muffler shop from smooth pipe for better flow for your exhaust.

I noticed performance improvement by cleaning the crud from the intake manifold and by losing the egr.
