Winter project list!

Oh my, the SDL has been neglected a bit this summer, or just lots of things decided to break at once, either way. Its funny just when you think you have replaced everything, more things that you hadn't thought of fail!:D

So where to start:
1. New ignition. The old one is starting to stick, if it fails its a monster PITA to remove. You have to pull half the dash apart to get it out. So I'll replace it before it fails.:idea3:
2. New tires. 20k mile Yoko's are cracking, vibrating trash. I havn't even bothered rotating them this year, don't care. Yoko's suck.
3. Antenna up button failed. Spring must have popped out. Cheap part, PITA to get to.
4. Ball joints are popping. So I need upper control arms at the very least. I probably should do the lower's as well, because they are the ones that I am probably hearing. Lowers usualy pop when you turn the wheel at low speeds right?
5. Front brakes are shot everything, calipers, discs, pads, ABS sensors.
6. Needs paint, its shot. I can probably it it sprayed for $2k. If I do a lot of the trim work, which I will.

*7* trans is real iffy, waiting for it to die.:grim::D Vacuum adjustment is maxxed, shifts real funny sometimes. MB builds one heck of a trans!:D However my friends, girlfriends, father owns a large trans shop. Possible deal...:idea3:

Damn lots of expensive stuff decided to break all at once. Temptation to ebay to some sucker strong, but must be resisted.:deal2::D:D Old MB's are so reliable they run forver and never break! They are pretty good at raping my checkbook...

I have had a new tranny filter and gasket sitting in the workbench for over a year now. Just ordered new guide rod kits, and I have had the sliding jaws for the rear windows in my toolbox for a few months.

Sounds like your car is living up to its alias in your sig.;)

I still have a Summer list that hasn't been completed on my Benzes. It might have to be carried over into a Winter list.:o

My right side suspension creaks...but it has for a long time, and the ball joint is new (used to clunk too, thats gone now :D) but I am leaving it alone for now as it drives just fine.

Tomorrow I am tackling my oil pressure sender, the VDO came in ONE DAY.

Also I will probably upgrade my headlights to Hella e-codes w/100/80 watt bulbs and a relay system, I want better lighting. I may also modify the headlight switch to light up, and might take the dash apart to replace the lightbulbs (only ONE in the climate control still working, all others have slowly burned out...very dark dash. )
Also need to flush the brake system out....

Aside from some rust work, most other stuff is done at this point....tranny is good...driveline is good....injection/engine is good....well, it needs a valve adjustment, but thats easy....might do that tomorrow too.

The other cars need work too though........:dizzy2:

Probably some sort of Mercedes, or maybe an XJ8. You can get pretty good deals on E320's, and XJ8's. CPO, warranty, etc.

lietuviai 09-22-2007 02:35 PM

You're thinking about a gasser?;)

Hatterasguy 09-22-2007 02:43 PM
