How to replace 83 300SD hood star
 

I will probably get the dunce award for this question :confused:

I can do most any work on my 240D or 300SD but I am replacing a stolen hood star on the 300SD and can not figure how the base goes into the hole in the hood. It is notched to fit the emblem base but the round part seems slightly too big. does it need to be twisted or something?

Obviously the thieves are smarter than I am :rolleyes:

Any ideas?

The star goes in so that it looks normal (wing type things in the slots). Then open up the hood and use some channel locks to twist the wings around to the sides (not in the notches). It will lock into place.

I've found to insert new star, then with channel locks pull spring down, rotate, to lock into position, as per cavaliers...
