Stiff throttle linkage & flakey cruise control 300d

My throttle linkage seems to be rather stiff on my 84 300d turbo. I read in the manual that the linkage should be lubricated with hydraulic oil. My questions here are what precicely should be lubricated and is hydraulic oil still a vaild choice for the lubrication? Also, my cruise control doesn't work worth a darn (works for a short time, then quits, the works again after you've forgotten it was set (SCARY!)) I'm guessing the cruise is vacuum driven... if so, is this likely a simple vacuum leak fix or is there a rebuild/replacement in my future? Also I am wondering if the cruise control might be contributing to the stiff throttle response. Any insight would be appreciated as I have always been heavily reliant on cruise control on my commute.

Thanks!

1st, I would disconnect the cruise amp if its acting eratically. The cruise system is driven by a cruise actuator so its not vacuum, rather electronic. The cruise amps and cruise actuators are usually the culprit. You can search on here or go to GDLonline.com and they will provide lots of info.

As for the linkage, be really careful about this - lube the metal ball ends with axle grease or such (I wouldnt bother with fluid, it will just run out and leave it dry within a day or 2). Inspect the linkage for fit and repl any broken or bent parts. I had mine jam up on me at 70 mph, not fun. At least your model has the metal ball ends, mine had plastic and Ive repl with the metal from 123.

Yep, hydraulic fluid seemed kinda odd for this application... especially due to the fact that gravity would play against you in both application and longevity. I was thinking of Phil Wood tenacious oil (sticky stuff that works great on bicycles)... my main concern was dust contamination... guess that wouldn't be a great concern under the hood, eh?

Thanks!

ATF for the joints is what the FSM recommends.
