Turn and run? (300TD purchase)
I've really wanted a 300TD for a while but settled on a 240D that I'm a bit regretful about
Spotted this one about 40 miles from me http://www.brettsaunders.com/300td/ Has the same rust issues my current 240D in the panels. Interior is in need of help. A lot of miles at 375k. Cracked windshield. Run or make an offer? |
that is some nasty rust.looks like some of it is structural.. I'd run away

Whats the asking price |
Run!
Really, run away from that one. It is in there too far and soooooooo difficult to repair properly. There are plenty of rust free cars out there. Take your time and find a good one.
That rust looks like mine, and even though mine runs pretty strong (used it regularly on long drives), I would never sell it as a non-parts car.
I wouldn't even want any of the parts from that wagon, much less the whole thing.......
run very fast
Yes, RUN! With that kind of structural rust it shouldn't even be allowed on public roads.

Add me to the RUN away!
The list of what that wagon likely needs would be daunting. Take the steering wheel and put it in a healthier specimen, IMO.
That TD looks worse than my 240D-which I tried to sell for $500 last year and couldn't. :grim:
Unless the asking price is VERY low (and then it would still be a short-term beater and possible parts car) run! |
The head rest slips are pretty cool.
I saw that one on ebay too. Parts car:eek:
Seems odd to have such serious rust concentrated in one place when the rest of the body does not look that bad.
Ive rebuilt a rust bucket before ,a 69 mustang mach 1 with a full set of floor pans ,trunk pans, trunk crossmembers etc ,what a job. When it was all complete I could say it was worth it because of my final price realized ,but never will I buy anything with even the slightest amount of rust ,Ill pass it on for the next guy to tackle.
