What are these plastic tubes?
96 E300D... When you have the cross over off to get the injectors, what are the 2 hard plastic tubes that connect to the manifold and that round plastic thermostat looking thing? The bottom line: I broke both of them. I'm such an idiot.
Details: I have been in the process of troubleshooting my nailing problem (some of you may remember the thread... I changed the IP seals and now have nailing). I decided that I would take the injectors out and clean them, as someone has suggested here. Anyway, when I took the cover off, I disconnected those plastic tubes, and moved them out of the way. While trying to get one of the injectors out, I put my hand down on the manifold, and SNAP! I broke one of the tubes. About an hour later, I was reaching to get something and when I pulled my arm back, SNAP! I broke the other one. What do these do? To add insult in injury, I then started to look around with the system of tubes. I pulled up on one of the ends that connects to the intake manifold too see how it was connected, and SNAP, I broke that too. After saying a few choice words, I decided to hang the wrenches for the day, as I had done enough damage. What can I do to fix 1) the 2 black tubes and more importantly... 2) the connector to the intake manifold (only one connect broke) |

I'm going to take a wild stab and say they're vacuum tubes of some sort, since I managed to snap a few clean in half with very little effort in a similar manner.
I went to AutoZone, got a handful of vacuum couplers (little rubber pieces that snug over the ends) and all is well now.

I think they are vacuum connections controling the resonance flaps and EGR valve? Cant think of anything else under there.
Here's your vacuum system. http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.asp?TP=1&F=210020&M=606%2E912&GA=722%2E438722%2E600&GM=717%2E446&CT=M&cat=19T&SID=14&SGR=170&SGN=09 And your intake, look at both #8's??? http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.asp?TP=1&F=210020&M=606%2E912&GA=722%2E438722%2E600&GM=717%2E446&CT=M&cat=19T&SID=14&SGR=030&SGN=02

I was thinking that I would do something like that. My biggest concern is the one I snapped from the intake manifold.

TMAllison:
It's not #8 in the diagram, what I am referring to is on the top of the maifold right where it bolts to the head. It streaches across the top of the manifold, and then outlets to those 2 tubes... I hope this is more clear. |

I found this pic on another post, but the tubes go from this black thing to the intake manifold. Does anyone know what they do?
