Elsbett Conversion on a 1998 E300D

Hello,

Here is a link to a website I put together detailing the Elsbett Conversion I did on my 1998 Mercedes E300D Turbodiesel. I couldn’t have done it without this forum and it’s participants. There’s not a lot of Elsbett info out there so hopefully this helps. Let me know what you think.

http://www.geocities.com/jaycimini/z98Homepage.html

Here ia the main navigation page for my website with other information on conversions and filtering

http://www.geocities.com/jaycimini/MainNavigationPage.html

Enjoy,
Jay

It's still a single tank "conversion".

ForceInduction, I am just noticing your signature. "WVO, stop the genocide"

AFAIK, genocide is commited against an ethnic race. The Mercedes diesels has a great engine but it's still just a fricken car.

You just don't understand.... These cars need our care and protection from all those people that want to dump cold slimy waste oil in the tank and drive.

The W123 is a race of cars that can no longer reproduce. They need our help and protection from people that wish to kill them through the slow torture and abuse of waste fryer grease. The W123 is not alone, there are many other IDI-powered Mercedes models out there that are being threatened with extinction and need our help too!

Second Fuel Filter
I did not use the second filter, which is pictured below. It is not required for this conversion but it would be handy. I may look at installing it in the future as a back up filter. The car does not draw enough fuel to require two like some cars do and you should be able to feel the car being sluggish and shifting hard when you need to change the filter.
The second filter is not for more fuel flow capacity, it is for more fuel filtering capacity. If they felt it was necessary to include a second filter to better filter the fuel, it's probably a good idea to install it. Unlike all the other single tank "conversion" companies, Elsbett actually has some knowledge of what they are doing.

I love my Mercedes also but........

Man I hope you guys are sarcastic on some level because then it’s pretty funny. If not sorry I’m hurting a loved one. I do love my Mercedes and running veggie oil is not optimal for them but I like the planet better than my car. I know it’s not a solution but it’s something.

As for the second filter I would like to put it on but it’s not a priority right now. The kit is pretty generic and I think it is suppose to be valve off most of the time.

If you like the planet, use biodiesel. It's better for the car and the emissions are cleaner than from veggie oil.

All of you using or considering to use vegetable oil as fuel should read this document:

Cheater!

Probably would have been better to edit your first post than add a new one.

Risky?

Force Induction - Didn’t know you could edit the post. Thanks for the info.

Diesel Addict – There are actually a lot of warnings like this out there. The data sheet is interesting but it is extremely vague and not much of a technical paper. They are oversimplifying a lot of information to scare people.

Converting the veggie oil to Biodiesel uses energy which creates emissions. Which is worse? The added emissions from my car or the emissions from the process of converting to Biodiesel? I don’t know.

Like I mentioned before SVO is not optimal for your engine but neither is neglecting regular maintenance like oil changes, making other engine mods or just plain beating on your car. Those folks that take the time to learn how collect the grease, filter and convert there car correctly have a lot less risk than those that don’t. The bottom line is take the time to read the information out there and make your own decision based on your level of comfort with the risk.
