Okay, pressure washed the engine, now...

...when I turn the key to the glow position, the aux cooling fan comes on; car is stone cold and climate control system is off. Start the car and the fan still runs; albeit at a higher speed. I know these are a two speed fan but the sound the fan makes after starting the car is not the same frequency as when it engages on a hot day with the A/C on. My guess is that the speed of the fan increases with the engine running because the alternator is now kicking in some extra voltage as opposed to the fan running with the engine off?

Certainly water ended up in a connector somewhere and is the cause. Any thoughts on where to start drying connectors or other components? I should think that shooting a small amount of WD-40 into aux fan connectors should do the same thing as rubbing alcohol to displace water in unwanted locations. I did use compressed air after washing the engine to disperse what standing water could be seen here and there.

Thanks, Tom

Check to make sure you did not knock off a connector on the A/C receiver-dryer.

That happens to me as well when I was my engine. I just drive it and it'll dry by itself.

Will do.

I'll head out there this afternoon to have a look around.

Thanks, ForcedInduction.

So, Deni, I take it that the aux fan just clears itself up after a while. I would hate for some moisture to be causing a short somewhere.

I couldn't wait; I had to go out and have a look and sure enough, you were right, ForcedInduction. I must have knocked the one of the two wires loose when spraying above from under the car. I had it over a service pit and was able to give everything a good douche once I pulled the lower panels.

Owe ya at least a beer for that.

I did wear a Tyvek suit with hood but crawled in to bed last night still tasting bits of oil-encrusted road debris. It's all so endearing.
