240D engine into 300D?

How hard would it be to swap a 240D engine into a 1981 non-turbo 300D? The reason I ask is that my 300D engine may be toast (see my other post) and I can get a 240D motor and tranny for free. They were suppposedly running fine when they were pulled 2 years ago for a project that never happened, and now the guy just wants them gone. This car is just transportation for my wife so she doesn't have to spend a fortune commuting in our Ford Powerstroke.

you will need the driveshaft from the 300D as well, also needed may be the trans mount. if you have both cars side by side, it would be best. as there are sure to be tons of little differences needed to swap parts over.

I only have the 300D, the 240D engine and tranny were pulled 2 years ago, but have most of the accessories on them. I also have a good pick and pull near me that usually has several diesel benzes in stock if I need to pull some small parts.

I did the same swap a few years ago, depending on years, the linkages might be diferent too. Like previously said the best is to have both cars side by side but if not, you will need the trans plate and driveshaft off the engine donor car.

I had to modify linkages and the harness for the glow plugs on the car i did. the body was a 78 300D and the donor car was a 80 240D.

Alternatively, does anyone want to trade a decent 617 nonturbo engine for the 240D engine and tranny that I have?

As already mentioned there are a bunch of small things that need swapping and not having both cars side by side will be a pain. I am in the middle of an 'late into early" swap right now.

you probably should also swap the rear end. the 240 ratio is 369 the 300na is 346. with the 346 gear and a 240 motor it will be pretty doggy off the line.

then the speedo needs to match the rear end too. and the motor mounts are different from a 300 to 240 as well.
