300TDT hydraulic oil reservoir rubber seal
My rear suspension is in the "all the way down" position. As I've been researching and learning how it is designed and works I have discovered that the rubber seal for the oil return line to the hydraulic oil reservoir has deteriorated and fallen piece by piece into the reservoir. My question is could the Hydro-pneumatic system be not working because of clogged lines or lack of pressure building in the reservoir or both? And do I need to flush the entire system and all of the components?

There is a filter in the tank, if it is in place it should have stopped any particles from getting sucked up.
The Nitrogen cells (spheres) also can be flat, they are prone to going bad on an old SLS and cause the symptom you describe or you may just have a coupling arm disconnected from the actuator valve, located on the rear near the diff. it is strapped to the sway bar. Or the valve may be leaking internally (this is pretty common but there are NO repair kits available from the dealer any longer Or (worst case) the pump may be bad (better hope not!) A good inspection of the overall system and a thorough cleaning of the tank is in order.

Truth is so often a mixed blessing and vague at best
"...the valve may be leaking internally
Or (worst case) the pump may be bad " Thanks for the info, DieHard. If it is a leaky valve is there a fix? And if it is the pump, what then? Last edited by Grnburg; 10-04-2007 at 02:38 PM. Reason: funky auto syntax |

You may be able to open the SLS valve and find some rubber parts that are commercially available (non MB O-rings for example) but I haven't opened one (yet) so I can't say for sure what you'll find. I know a mechanic that tried and says they are not repairable
This is one element of the wagons that may well become a problem in the future I am sure, maybe someone who has repaired one of these valve assys will read this and comment. I had the local dealer search the world for a repair kit which used to be called out for this and they said "nada"! The hydraulic pump is much less likely to go bad but if necessary you can still order one for a discounted price of around $835
