Right before I left, he crushed everything. He called me about 2 months ago and said he had more. Please get out there if you can......We need the parts.

After owning only motorcycles while enlisted in the Air Force I bought my first car after having to sell my bike when I got out of the military. Luckily I bought a southern '85 300D with no rust which has a few minor issues but that's it for 'ole Dixie. Now I use her as a full-time college commuter at 300 miles PER day I do love it though...

75 miles a day 3days a week and the occasional 200-300 family road trip every couple of months. Engine and tranny were supposedly rebuilt a few years ago and or solid. The peripheral stuff is getting weak, like going under the hood to stop the engine, no power door locks but the fuel door locks at random, SLS has decided to just stay at the bottom, the "climate control" prefers a hot climate in all seasons, driver's window switch stops when I get to work -at the jail. Her name is "Daisey", from the last owners. It is the old girl's time to get a restoration but I've only had her 6 months now.

My 300D is still running strong--

at 317,000. Door locks, heater (not a/c though), original Becker radio, sunroof all work, and cruise control is dead-on accurate.

Only big problem is cosmetics, the champagne clearcoat is finally starting to go, and the rear main seal leaks.

over 80,000 miles in 5 years, it has been very dependable.

Can't say the same for the SD, it developed a bad noise in or around cylinder # 3 in June, and along with a 200PSI reading when the rest are 320-390, it doesn't look good. I haven't had time to remove the head and take a look, perhaps next year.

Young driver here. It gets me to school and work every day. Not too many miles, but a daily driver nonetheless.

Mine is my daily driver. A car for me is 60% hobby and 40% transportation. I'm looking for a cheap winter car though, to keep it out of the salt.

How old do I have to be to respond to this question? I just turned 49, does that count or do I have to wait another year? My car is only 25, pretty young compared to me.
You need to be 48 years of age to be an "old diesel daily driver".

So, we qualify.

I use mine every day normally. It's the primary kid hauler as well. Right now I have it pretty much apart in the rear for rust repair. Just a few more days and I'll have it back on the road and we can stop cramming everything into the TL.

I put roughly 50 miles a day on the 240, with its 2nd time transplanted N/A 617. The car was free to me, came with the 617 even, cost me about $1k to get it right and running, including the $500 in back DMV penalties it had tagged on it...ouch....
But, its been running solidly for me about a year now as my commuter, and if it had tires on it I could trust on a long trip I'd feel confident about making a road trip in it. After the rust finally kills it the other 82 240 will replace it with the same engine (then in it's 3rd transplant car) and the manual trans conversion sitting next to it on the floor right now.
