300TD will not start
Went out this morning and my 1985 300TD will not start.
Instrument panel lights up when the key is turned (buzzers and all) but when turning key to start... nothing, no clicking, nothing. I can start by jumping the contacts on the wheel well. Cleaned all contacts on the wheel well any way... still can only start car by jumping the contacts. Help! Thanks dennis |
Hey I Had the exact problem not too long ago.
I changed the starter/solenoid still no start. It was my N.S.S (Neutral Safety Switch) I didnt even replace it i just tapped on it a little and cleaned it off, works great now. If tapping dont work you may have to remove and take it apart there is a good post somewhere out there with good info and pics, just search the forums on Nss r&r. If that doesnt work it may be your ignition. If you want to test that you can check if you are getting power from your ignition at the starter with a voltimeter if your getting juice all is good if not then look above just to narrow it down. |
There's a thread here somewhere on dirty contacts in the ignition switch if the NSS turns out not to be the problem.

Thanks!!!
It was the Neutral Safety Switch... you guys are the best!!!
thanks!!! dennis |
Many times if it won't start in park, you can shift it to neutral and it will start. Sometimes also giggling the shift lever will help.
