W123 Wagoneers Need help with Cargo Cover

I just acquired a cargo cover and don't know where it goes, what additional hardware is needed, or where to purchase the hardware.
Thanks a bunch. Photos of the set up would be awesome.

There is no such thing as a W123 cargo cover. You should mail me whatever you have and I will get rid of it for you

Seriously nice score.

Charles,

If by cargo cover you mean the thing that clips in the back of the wagons and either pulls up vertically behind the rear seat with a mesch or out horizontally to cover the contents in the back I can probably help you because my '82 wagon came with one that has all the hardware (except one of the clips is broken).

Are these things hard to find? What might mine be worth? I don't use it and don't forsee a need for it as i drive with my back seats folded down to accomodate three dogs most of the time.

peace,
woody

I think there has to be mounting tabs on the headliner both with the rear seats up (mounting tabs right above and behind the rear seats) and with them down (mounting tabs right above and behind the front seats). These tabs are for the net.

For the cargo cover itself there should be mounting tabs on the inside part of the hatch. The rear seat 2/3 part should also have mounting brackets to hold the assembly itself.

Agree, that's a nice find to complete your ride. Congrats!

Groovinola,
I am guessing they are hard to find...at least for me. I would love to purchased your set if you don't need them. Let me know...

MBeige, I can't seem to figure out where the whole assembly mounts. Perhaps it also need it's own mounting gear. I will try to post an image of the back side of the unit. It has turn knobs and hooks.
Thanks for your help...
P.S. It is black and my car is palomino, so if someone out there has one is good condition and wants to trade, I am game.

i've seen tdt's that don't have the clips on the hatch interior for the cargo net. both were '82s.

If your car originally did not have one, you need to get the mounting brackets, tabs, etc from a car that has. I'm not familiar if there were several versions of the cover assembly which might make looking for the right parts difficult, but I hope not.

See if this link helps too http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=145950

Hardware for Cargo Net/Cover

Ok bear with me because I don't have a digital camera so I'll do my best to describe the hardware I have in my wagon.

1) two chrome seating brackets mounted on the back and top of the longer rear seat drivers side. The brackets allow the cargo unit to hang by its hooks on top and clip via a spring loaded mechanism on the bottom. Attaches with two phillips head screws

2) two black pieces attached back at an angle above the rear seats on either side of the vehicle just about centered and above the rearmost windows. these peices attach with an allen screw through the headliner and into either the metal of the roof or some sturdy peice which has been mounted beneath the headliner. These peices hold the net in place on either end in the way a wall phone is mounted

3) two metal clip holders, equally spaced on each side in a cut out area of the plastic piece which houses the rear hatch lock (note: my 85 wagon does not have the two cut outs in this plastic piece probably because it came with a 3rd seat eliminating the cargo cover as an option), attached to the sheet metal on the tailgate by two small screws. These pieces hold the cargo cover in place by giving the clips something to attach to.

There are no part numbers on any of the brackets that i can see anywhere. I'm assuming the actual cover/net unit you have has the same attachments on it that mine have. If not two rivited black metal attachments to fit the entire unit into #1 above and two plastic clips (It's one of these plastic clips that is broken on my unit) to attach the cover to #3 above with the round ends of the net fitting into #2 above. The one i have is palamino (thats the tan color correct?) I'm not sure what i want to do with mine. now that I've been messing with it I can see where it may come in handy down the road.

feel free to ask more questions and good luck locating the parts.

peace,
woody

Charles,

Currently I don't have easy access to a digital camera. If I can find a friend who has one i will surely put up some pics. Also, I have a couple of other wagons i can check for the parts you need. If i come across anything i'll let you know.

peace,
woody

Woody,

My 85 wagon has the third seat option and was at one time equipped with the cargo net. In addition to the cargo net itself, I am missing the clips/hooks on the hatch interior for the cargo net. I have the rectangular cutouts in the hatch trim but whatever was there is missing. As long as you may be checking wagons for parts I certainly would be interested in hatch clips if there is an extra set. Thanks.

Randy,

thats exactly how my wagon looks alot of the time. Since i have to fold the back seats down to properly accomodate the three beasts the cargo cover becomes useless. there would be mass rebellion if i tried to stick any of them in the way back and used that net to keep them back there. it could come in handy though for some of the dog rescuing/relocating adventures that I inevitably find myself partaking in which is one of the reasons i will probably hold on to mine.

vollpreuss (and charles),

i will post back here if/when i locate any hardware for the cargo covers
