What constitutes a "good" head

I pulled the head off my 84 300D to be rebuilt and dropped it off at the machine shop. They cleaned it up and magnafluxed it and found some cracks. So I searched and found a yard to ship a used head to the machine shop. They magnafluxed it and found some cracks. Head was guaranteed warp- and crack-free, so the yard sent another one. Machine shop magnafluxed it and found cracks. Yard has agreed to take them both back and refund my money. None of the heads were pressure tested. Does a crack-free head exist? I'm hesitant to install a head with a crack, even if it does pass a pressure test. I realize that Metric Motors would ship me a beautifully rebuilt head, but the car doesn't merit the investment.

Thanks,

K.C.

A good head has no cracks. Find another yard.

I missed the article also. Thought the topic belonged on Open discussion.

I think a good head should be crack free.

Cracks can be OK

A head with cracks might be OK. It depends where the cracks are. If the crack grows, what might leak, and where it might leak to.

If most of these heads are cracked, and the engines were running OK beforehand, then there may be no problem.

Of course, it's better to obtain a crack free head, but if none are available, you might have to rebuild the engine with a cracked head.

Couldn't possibly be "magnafluxedr" error could it? these heads are pretty tough, think I'd have it checked someplace else just for fun.

Well, If the girl is a little inexperienced, or reluctant, there's the possibility the head will not be good. In some cases however, it just comes naturally to them, experienced or not. It's really hit or miss. It also depends on the guy's preferences to make the determination. If she satisfies your buddy, it doesn't mean she'll do good for you...UHHMM, I just realized you were referring to something along the lines of mechanical things....OOOPSSEE!!

Yeah, I thought this should be in Open Discussion, which I had been good enough to stay away from for the past few months.
