Report......First Diesel Purge

Just finished the first purge and wanted to post results. 83 300 D
I have put about 70K on this car in the last yr, and know it well.
The car has approx. 330k on it and has run well with no major problems.
Slight lag off the line and rough idle with a/c on were my reasons for doing this.

I used 2 cans and hooked right up to fuel and return lines under the hood. I also used a clear mason jar to hold the diesel purge so I could keep an eye on it with out running it out of fuel.
The first can I ran down to about 6 oz. before adding the second can to the jar. I was really amazed at how clean it remained. It turned a light carmel color that I was able to see through till I got to the last 8 oz. of the second can. It then turned black enough that I could no longer see through it. I ran the second can down to about 4 oz. before hooking the fuel lines back up and flushing the DP out with the diesel in the tank.
I flushed by taking the car out on a 5 mile run. then changed both fuel filters.
Also, within the last 3 weeks, all service work has been done to it, including valves and oil change and filters.
I then took it on another 5 mile run.these are the things I noticed on that run.

No change in idle.....still rough with a/c on
No decernable increase in power
A much smoother excelleration
quieter motor.....not much, but I do notice a difference.
No hesitation off the line. I did have a slight lag before.

I will bump this thread in 30 days and let you know how it is running at that time.

It's magic, it always is.

Magnets have also been reported to make huge improvements and crystals are even better by some accounts.

Auto maintenance as designed by the factory engineers and documented in the factory shop manual are old school. Engineers are so left-brained, how could anyone trust them?

lol... magnets work great for keeping metal out of your engine xD

How did you put 70K on this car. Do you mean 7K, or 7 Kilometers?

I had good results with purge. Wasn't expecting a miracle, and didn't get one. I did notice smoother acceleration, smoother idle, and less smoke. May be placebo.

Jack,

I DP'd all my 85's, adjusted valves, even CCW'd the ALDA. The secret to the real, noticeable improvement in my cars at least... was the cleaning/replacement of the filter screen in the tank. One car had a screen maybe 95% clogged.

Anyway, it worked for me...twice.

I have a thread in here somewhere with pix on How-To.

Good luck.

Working in New Orleans and having a wife in Tarpon Springs had alot to do with it. Actually that mileage was put on in the course of about 14 months.

They were made to drive

How many miles on your injector nozzles? In my opinion, if your fuel isn't dirty, and your filters aren't clogged, and you still have power issues, then your fuel injectors themselves are the culprit. Diesel purge will clean build up from the fuel filters, injection pump, and even the nozzles themselves, but it won't correct a bad spray pattern due to wear.

I just replaced my original 200,000 mile nozzles tonight - with new German nozzles. One of the original Germans would no longer buzz, and tended to shoot a stream rather than pop. Once the new nozzles were installed and the car was running, the difference was immediate and definitely noticeable. The idle was much smoother and the engine ran more quietly. Acceleration was swift and MUCH quieter than before (actually I kind of liked it louder). The car no longer needs to downshift to gain power.

The downside - I now need to retune my transmission / vacuum setup because the tranny is getting too much vacuum and is flaring because I don't have to press the pedal as far to get the same amount of power.

Dunno, I have never had them out and the PO only flipped the car so I doubt he had them out either.I have put about 70k on the car since owning it, so pulling them out and getting them tested is probably in order.
