Sorry........you lose.

That's for an SD

Our discussion of outrageous prices for hoses concerned the SDL.

I'll take that $10.

open checkbook

I'm one of those over-the-top-while-I'm-fixing-that-might-as-well-replace-that-too type of 126 owners.

Good news I feel like I can drive cross country at any time and not worry about anything, and everything works as it should (even A/C and cruise!). To get to that stage you have to be willing to throw some cash at your car and at least somehow justify it versus a car payment (that and you did 90+% of it yourself - so you could have spent 2X that amount!).

However, after the front end (and rear) rebuild earlier this year ($$$ lots of new bits), I've slowed down on the open checkbook. I'm still doing religous fluid (Mobil 1) and filter maintenance, but for example, I know I could use shocks. That I'm going to post pone that till after I see my x-mas bills

$400.00 for one hose. WOW. I guess they are like the w123, w126. metal lines from the oil filter with rubber to the oil cooler? If so remove them, cut off the crimps with a Dremel and have threaded ends brazed on and new hoses made with threaded ends that will screw on. seems far cheaper.

I know I will get flack for this.

How on earth could a hose cost $409?! Is it made of unobtanium or something?! In which case....it should never need to be replaced anyways!

One word rare, means no aftermarket.

13,500 SDL's vs how many SD's did they make? 100k?

Buy a less commen MB and you too can enjoy some cool pricing!

Use with (2) 012 997 56 48 seal ring.

For that price, they can't throw in the seal rings??? I still want an SDL though.

Stuff like that almost makes it not worth it to buy an SDL....you can get a very nice condition 380SEL or 420SEL etc....for barely half the cost of the diesel....it uses gas, which is cheaper than diesel currently....and with there being more of them (than SDL's), parts are somewhat cheaper as well...hmm...not to mention the power difference. That $409 hose could buy nearly 2,500 miles of gas/driving miles for a 420sel....or 2,200 miles and an oil change! If I ever get a LWB W126...it'd probably be a gasser. (But I don't see myself doing that in the remote future. )

I agree I wouldn't buy another SDL either. I like the 603 a lot, but I am more of a W126 fan than a diesel fan. If my SDL was totaled tomarrow I'd replace it with either a cherry 420SEL or 560SEL, of 1989-91 vintage. I prefer a powerfull quite V8 to a diesel, and don't mind paying a bit extra for the fuel.

I prefer the power and refinement that the 603 provides. Its as diesel as I want to go, 617 is a bit to "diesel" for my tastes honestly. I also prefer the sound the I6 makes over the I5. I6's are perfectly balanced so they produce a unique exhuast note. I liked my 300SD but it never let you forget that a diesel was under the hood. I'm more than willing to put up with some more expensive parts for further refinement.
