Newer seats into a 1983 300SD. Any Ideas?
A while back, this forum convinced me not to send Guderian to the Big Junkyard in the Sky. I'm now to the point of worrying about comfort.
The original leather front seats are showing their age. There is a broken spring in the bottom of the driver's seat that does a terrific job of ripping trousers. If that were the only problem, I would fix the springs and re-cover them. The worst part is the total lack of lumbar support in the driver's seat. I've rolled up towels to put between my lower back and the seat. Works great until I move a bit. After 30 minutes driving, I look like Quasimodo. and feel worse. The other day I test drove a 1993 300D, the seats were great. It doesn't look like such a big undertaking, but I can't find any posts from people who have swapped newer seats into early 80's 126 bodies. If anyone has done it, can you tell me the seats you used, the problems you encountered and the solutions you found?

that would be a 124. I don't know about swapping them in.
Later 126 seats should bolt right in. they are pretty great. not enough lumbar but better than any other benz seats that I have seen. Tom W
