Hand held starter switch?

I want to be able to turn my engine using a hand held switch. I have done this in the past but I doen't remember the two terminals to connect it to in the block on the passanger side inner fender. Does anyone know which ones to connect to?

there are three screws in that block. the middle and the one to the front.
I just used them to start mine today. jumped across with some needle
nose plires. thinking my nutral safety switch is my problem.

if your making it directly to the rear of the starter, attach one lead to Positive. and one lead to the small screw on the starter, a small wire will go to it. this will engage the starter.

Thats what I was looking for. That way is so much easier than turning the engine with a wrench.

Easily done!

I did this on my '79 240D. When I first got it running I had some intermittant grounding problems that would periodically prevent the starter from turning and set up a doorbell switch inside the cab. I wired one lead off of the posative battery terminal and one to the starter. As long as the key is in the on position to unlock the steering wheel and prevent the vacuum shut off from working the car will start. Now that the electrical system is working(sort of anyway, I still have some grounding issues with the speakers and the heater fan) I am going to rerout the wires to the engine compartment and mount the switch to a convinient location for turning the engine to do valve adjustments, IP timming etc.

Thanks, I soldered a narrow alligator clip on one lead to facilitate the small screw head. I have another one for the CD. I know, I know, it's overkill, but if it's worth doing, it's worth doing to excess! Mark Twain, I think. I use this to bump over engine when replacing V belts also. Haven't tried doing it on a transmission fluid change...yet.

sedecrem, on my 240 I had to attach clips on starter, not an easy thing. So it sounds like you're on to something.

A 123 300, has a block with three screws, front most and rear most on that too.
