Valve springs.....direction?
The manual says to point the springs with the tight end towards the head and the 3 painted dots to the top.
Been staring at the springs until I was having flashbacks... no dots and no difference between the top and the bottom that I can see. In the middle of it now so any help would be appreciated. Don

What engine is this, and why am I suddenly very worried by the fact that my replacement valve springs for my cam swap have no markings at all?
Posts like this keep me up at night, you know.

They have paint on a number of the coils which makes direction very clear. For the life of me without the paint, I wouldn't know top from bottom and I can't see how it would make a difference.....but I have followed the manual to the tee on it.

It is a bugger too figure out. I remember using the tapered sharpened end of a pencil as a "feeler gauge". I wouldn't think new springs would be any easer.

and...
I can only guess that the reason it is important... ...that it is important for the keeper side to collapse more easily than the head side. Now... why that would have any importance I do not understand.
