Water from the parking brake release

Hi all,

Washed and dried the 82 300D yesterday. Afterward, when I pulled the parking brake release, water shot out from around the handle. Not a huge amount, but does this suggest there's a leak I should investigate?

Thanks,

Charlie

More than likely, your windshield seal needs replacing. On one of my 123's, I had water dripping on my left foot while driving.

Thanks, toomany. And what a timely suggestion. I'm currently discussing a windshield replacement with my insurance carrier. It's original glass and in pretty rough shape.

You mean that isn't part of the hydraulic braking system?...

It's probably the windshield seal as mentioned previously. You should also check your hood hinge pockets too, might be backed up with junk or have a small rust hole into your firewall.

My car leaks water from the windshield seal across the inside of the header trim (along the ceiling) and drools out down the drivers side A-pillar, down the dash, and onto the door pocket/floor. My glass is in rough shape also, no cracks...but so much road rash and pitting that I can barely see out of it if I drive into the sun. Its not the original....but I'd bet its seen at least 100-140k of driving....

Replacement of the entire windshield onsite here in Grand Rapids for my car is $280. I am heavily considering it...I'd get rid of the leak issue....and have good glass!

Paw, VOS glass quoted me around $200 for one of my 300D's done at their shop on Front St. Maybe its more for SD's.

Silicone has worked great for my leak.

It's amazing where a 123 windshield leak can take you. I discovered mine when I kept noticing water under the right-rear floormat. The rear foot-wells are lower than the fronts. But I really do like the idea of a water-fed hydraulic system!

Awesome....my glass is needing replacement, so I may consider that.....where did you use the silicone? Inside or outside? It only leaks when the car is sitting, if I drive is usually stops (or slows) the leak, and if the car is sitting with the drivers side front higher than the rest of the car....no leaks either (either that or its just pooling in the ceiling.

I may call VOS glass and see what it'd be for an SD. I'd surely like a new windshield I can see out of when facing the sun.

Silicone on the outside. I had a minor leak at drivers side lower corner. Never leaked since. Make sure surface is clean especially under the rubber gasket. Then squeeze black silicone inside generously.

The fella at VOS glass seems familar with the D's. He said he used to do them. I don't think theres much to replacing these windshields. The rubber gasket is mainly what holds them in-place.

The rains has really started falling in the Pacific Northwest, and this afternoon I noticed a few little beads of water seeping in through the seal at the bottom of the windshield. There seem to be quite a few leaks all along the bottom. Can the seal be replaced (available here) without replacing or removing the glass? I doubt it but it's worth asking. Not sure I want to take on a job such as this on my own if it involves removing the windshield.

If you don't mind, send us some rain! No, you cannot replace without removing the windshield.

How many inches of rain would you like? I'll see what I can do ;-) Thanks for the reply

The paper says we need around ten inches, it's working! Overcast and spitting.
