1982 123 TD Rear Interior dome light
 

Here's one. When I open the tailgate, the act of pressing in the release button turns the rear dome light on.

When I release the button, the light goes out.

Sometimes it stays on until the tailgate is closed, as it should. While the tailgate is open, I can press the release button and watch the light turn on and off.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you need to replace the switch.
