300SD A/C Expansion Valve Location
I own one of the "bastard" 300SDs, the 1978-1980 model. I can't seem to be able to find the location of the A/C expansion valve. All of the information that I have located on the internet talks about the 1981-1985 models. I need to replace the R-4 compressor and feel that a complete system flush and replacement of the expansion valve is also required.

Have you looked up under the driver's side kick panel, above the fuel pedal, behind the piece of carpet, jammed up on the firewall, covered in black insulation type gunk with a copper wire running into the evaporartor?

They're connected, so it can't be too far away from the evaporator:
