I havn't done them in a long time. I did them in my SDL almost five years ago, they are really, really simple to do on those. Its not even thread worthy, about as hard as changing the alt.

Never did them on the SD, cut the lines off and bypassed them with a loop of hose. Worked very well, cost $15 more importantly time spent 20 minutes.

Oil cooler houses Look to be a real PITA on the 617, they are snaked in between everything. If I ever had to do them again I wouldn't, thats one job I'd have a shop do.

On my friends car the lower oil cooler line was seized to the oil cooler. We wrenched it so hard it tore the bung off of the cooler. $800 from mercedes. What a pita.

A 240D has one less cylinder, the engine and the IP is shorter, that means more working room. I have an 83 240D and an 83 300D turbo. A look in the engine bays will make it apparent which one is harder.

I used to swear by PB Blaster, but Kroil (Kanolabs.com) is even better: with PB I still bent one oil line on my SD. With Kroil, all four oil line ends and even the dreaded nuts on the downpipe on the parts car came loose as if new. Which they weren't: badly rusted.

Purely anecdotal, I know, but I'm a believer now. I got mine at a HVAC outlet 'cause they say they don't retail to general public.

Just sharing my experience; I don't have stock or anything, but I bet if you try it you won't go back.

See what they look like in the picture and you might want to make them yourself.

I think Kroil would run uphill. It's amazing stuff.

I tape the nuts in place at the ends of the hoses and the go right in without interference. This worked on a 72 220D plus a 76 and 77 300D.

the secret is ignoring the oil cooler line mount on the engine block. Take it out and never replace it. With this technique i can remove and replace one in about five minutes.

That is to keep the metal part of the lines from vibrating. It needs to be used or the metal lines can fatigue and break.

The same way ignoring the injector line clips can allow them to break.
