Will it make any difference in the 3-4 flare if he adjusts the bowden cable to acheive a later shift? |

However, usually when adjusted later, the vacuum level is lower because there is more pedal required to get it to shift. This will typically reduce the flare. However, in this case, I'd have my doubts because the modulator is not responding to vacuum levels lower than 5". It's certainly worth a try, however. Tighten the Bowden cable by three turns and see if the later shifts will reduce the 3-4 flare. The higher rpm's for the shift may have a positive effect on the modulator. |

Sun Valley quoted me $1500 delivered with a 2 year warranty and torque converter. Anyone have experience with them. John

That's a few dollars more than previous but you can be assured that the product is sound.

Brian;
I tightened the Bowden cable 3 turns and the 3-4 flare is tolerable. Still have 2-3 flare going up an incline. Am I correct in assuming that these adjustments to the vacuum, modulator, and bowden are just post-poning the inevitable tranny replacement? When I replace with a Sun Valley rebuilt, will I put the vacuum back to 10" and the bowden 3 turns looser? Thanks for all your advice. John

Prior to replacing the tranny would a new K1 spring kit make a difference. "Superior Kit K722A-D. This valve body kit deals with these problems: Harsh 1-2 shift Soft or flare 2-3 shifts Slip or flare 2-3 (cold) Soft or flare 3-4 shifts Stacked 2-3 shifts" |

The rebuilt will require it's own tuning once it's installed. It's never plug and play. |

Should I give this a try before replacing the tranny? Rate the technical difficulty please. I do a lot of my own maintenance, but have never opened a tranny before. John

I have a new k1 spring kit that I did not use if you decide to pursue. I would sell for $20 including shipping. As noted before, removal of the EGR and modulator adjustment fixed my problem. John |

You should definitely give it a try. You'll need to remove the valve body in the transmission and maintain perfect cleanliness. But, the change in springs has offered a permanent solution for some members in the past.

I don't believe the K1 spring kit is what he needs. It's the Superior kit with different spring rates for the valve body that is required.
