Honda Type-R Diesel Coming Soon

http://autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/228721/

Quote:
Honda is plotting a diesel-powered Civic Type-R according to the company's top powertrain engineer, Kenichi Nagahiro.
"As long as it is in keeping with the Type-R brand we will do it." he told Autocar. "But high revving has to be part of it and that's what we're working on."
A Civic Type-R D is likely to be powered by the most powerful version of next year's new 2.2-litre diesel, which will be launched in the new Accord. It's likely to have at least 180bhp and 320lb ft of torque.

We'll probably never see it here in the U.S., due to government dieselphobia and so forth.

That's a little 'tarded, I thought the whole point of a car like that is that its motor revs like a motorcycle.

Whhhaaaat. Man. Daddy needs a new car.

Seriously after I am done with this car my next project is a 2.5turbo 190d with a GT37. One of the finns is pumping 425 HP out of a stock engine.

Yes, the guy who designed the new Honda diesel hates diesels.

I was reading an article today and said that for sure a 4 cylinder Accord diesel will be here in '09 and then a Ridgeline and Pilot will be offered with a v6 diesel. I think a diesel Ridgeline would be a neat ride.

If Honda is listening, I would probably buy a diesel if they made it. We need to replace our other car eventually (Chevy Prism (which is actually a toyota corrola with a chevy embelm on it)) and we can't have two cars that I am perpetually fixing (ie: sadly not another 123 or 126).

I don't trust the VW TDIs after all I've heard about them, so competition is more than welcome.

High revving and high torque don't exist. If you want torque from a diesel, you have to have a long stroke and sacrifice RPM. If you want RPM you have a short stroke and sacrifice torque. That's why motorcycles and Honda's can scream and make gobs of HP but could be beaten by a lawn mower for torque.

180bhp and 320lb ft of torque, in their dreams. More like 180HP and 200lb-ft of torque is what they will get.

That's why the 617 has 125hp and only 180torque and a 5.9L 12V Cummins had 160hp and 400torque. The 617 is made to revv while the 5.9 is made to pull.

I see no problem with Honda's numbers. The Bluetec has 208 hp and 388 ft-lbs of torque.
