I need some advise on how much to sell my 1979 240D for

189k miles, always been garaged, some rot on LR quarter pannel, jack points and door bottoms.
recent repairs are: pads & rotors, radiator, m. cylinder, w. pump, battery, vacuum lines & alignment. the A/c and cruise are inop. the PO replaced the ball joints and rebuilt the trans. i drive it almost every day to work and it drives great. it will need some tires soon, and thats about it. the only reason why im selling is that i just got a 85 300dt[been lookin for a long time] and i dont have the garage space for it.
photos of it are on the link below.

I would ask $2500 and expect an offer in the teens. The diesels are pulling good money right now.

Or less depending on how rusty it is.

Rot and NO AC with bad tires doesn't get you very high in the teens really. But I'm so cheap I may not be a good judge..... {been lucky with my deals}
Congrats on finding the other car.

Pretty color, and looks ok from 20 feet.
If no smoking, tight steering, and a good interior, I agree with Wodnek, ask $2500.

couldn't open link and doesn't say if auto or stick. Sticks are more desireable especially on a 4-banger. Since you are looking for asking price, I'd say $2-2.5k... maybe even up to 3k if stick but be prepared to go down to $1-1.5k is auto.

a rust car is a bad thing. you mention the jack points and quarter panels. how are the frame points? what is wrong with the a/c? and don't say "just needs a charge" the car Looks good, I agree, if it's a stick, you will get good demand for it. auto, not so much...
good running goes a long way, and if you have RECENT recipts for the repairs you list, it will help raise the price of the car, if these are all 2 - 3 year old repairs, don't hold your breath for a good price. figure 600.00 or so for a poor offer auto, if a/c needs major work and the repairs listed are all over 2 years old. if recent means less than 6 months ago, figure 1200-1800 for auto to over 3 for a stick. get the a/c fixed and you could be looking at more.

thanks guys
its an auto trans. interior is in great shape, frame and floorboards are solid.
the a/c is a mystery. a leak or something, i do know that the compressor is good because i jumped the pressure switch for a few seconds and it was quiet and seemed fine

Correction

I correct myself, quote from my post on March 2006...
"I just sold my folks' '79 240D 140K miles, plain jane but zero rust, a/c works and all service docs and major services up to date..$2700"

This car had auto trans. Manual everything. No sunroof. Ivory exterior and Bamboo interior. New battery and stated services and docs. Tires Very Good+,
had passenger side mirror and blaupunkt radio.
Exterior and interior excellent. ZERO RUST.

So, the others are about right at $2500 for your car as a starting point to reduce the price for defects.
Color red may add value.

I bought mine last month for $2700 in Houston

rust at the very bottom of 2 doors, a minor spot under the left rear panel. Had good tires, old Alpine radio, recent (not new) tires, color matched wheel covers, 5 yr old repaint SAME color as yours (repaint was a good job), manual everything, no sunroof, MANUAL transmission, working AC, about 250,000 miles, but engine was well cared for, interior shows some age, but no rips tears or sproingy springs, So that seems in line with the posts above.

Rust and being an automatic would bring the price down below 2K IMHO.
